Arni Sveinsson is set to make history once he tees it up Thursday in the 2026 U.S. Open.

The 19-year-old, who just completed his sophomore season at LSU, got through final qualifying last week to make it into his first major championship at Shinnecock Hills. Even more impressive, he's set to become the first player from Iceland to compete in the U.S. Open.

"I'm really proud to be from Iceland," Sveinsson told Golf Channel after qualifying. "I carry that with me as an underdog and having to break down milestones and barriers no one has from back home. It's a true honor, and I just can't wait to go over there and try to break more milestones for Iceland."

Sveinsson tied for second at the Lakes Golf & Country Club site in Westerville, Ohio, shooting rounds of 67-68 to punch his ticket to Shinnecock.

He was a third-team All-American as a freshman at LSU and started the fall hot this season with a win and a runner-up finish. He finished the year ranked 72nd in the NCAA golf rankings and tied for 32nd at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship earlier this month.

And now, he heads to Shinnecock for what's going to be a milestone week.
