Bengals stars Tee Higgins and Chase Brown rep Cincinnati on Sundays. So, how well-acquainted are they with the city off the field?
Higgins and Brown are partnering with Bounty, a Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble product, for its Wingman campaign ahead of Super Bowl 60.
The Enquirer caught up with the offensive stars to discuss the partnership, Cincinnati food and more.
These quotes have been edited for length and clarity.
Do you guys have a favorite restaurant in Cincinnati? If so, what is it? And what do you get there?
Chase Brown:Sotto and the (cacio e pepe).
Tee Higgins: I just started eating at Sotto, and I'm really high on that right now. And, obviously, Jeff Ruby's (Steakhouse).
What do you get at Jeff Ruby's?
Higgins: I get the wagyu steak 8-ounce filet with a side of mash and mac-and-cheese.
Have you tried the Steak Burrow?
Higgins: Yeah, I had that before. With the crawfish and stuff.
Brown: What about the Tee Higgins ice cream?
Oh, I've never had that.
Brown: You got to ask. It's a secret thing.
What's in it?
Higgins: It's like banana ice cream with their butter pie in it.
Where do you get wings around town?
Higgins: I usually go to (BJ Wings) out on the West Side. It's great because they've got my favorite kind, which is hot honey lemon pepper. And they use so much sauce bro, it's crazy. Whenever I eat them, it's perfect. I got Bounty at home, and I just use Bounty to clean up my mess.
Do you have opinions on Cincinnati chili?
Higgins: I'm cool.
Brown: I haven't had it enough to have a vocal opinion about it.
I had it (occasionally) growing up, and now I've lived here over 10 years and they brainwash you into loving it and being addicted to it.
Higgins: I've been here six years, and they can't brainwash me.
We asked some people around town, since there was this big snowstorm this past weekend, other than Paycor Stadium or your home, if you could've been trapped anywhere around town during the storm, where would it be?
Higgins: That's a good question. See, it depends if I am going to have food or not.
That's a big part of the equation. My answer is Jungle Jim's because it has so much food everywhere, and there's some entertainment.
Higgins: I'd probably say Jungle Jim's too, now that I think about it.
Brown: If I could be trapped anywhere with my (games), my computer or something, I'd be alright.
The big game is coming up, and it's between two teams, the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, that people maybe didn't expect to be there at the beginning of the year. So, what do you think of this matchup and do you have any picks?
Higgins: Honestly, I didn't think that these two teams would be in the Super Bowl, obviously, but they made it and I think the Patriots are going to get the edge on this one.
The defense (gives them the edge) for sure. Not saying their offense is not good because obviously they got Drake Maye, who is up for MVP and things like that, but their defense is really good this year.
Brown: I've got friends on both teams, Devon Witherspoon with the Seahawks and Tommy DeVito with the Pats, along with a couple other guys that I've played with as well. So, I'm excited for both teams, and I don't really care who wins, I guess. I just hope it's a good game, there's a lot of points scored, there's a lot of good food. And if there's any messes, Bounty will be there to clean it up.
Tee, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba ballin' out this year, what has made him so successful?
Higgins: Just his ability to get open. I'm pretty sure a lot of teams have been doubling him, but he's still finding a way to get open. His quarterback's putting the ball in the right place for him to make the best of the opportunity. I trained with him this offseason a little bit, and shoutout to him. He's having a hell of a year.
Can you share more about your partnership with Bounty and what it means to work with a brand that has Cincinnati ties?
Brown: I think with this season, there's a lot of big games, national championship, all these playoff games, the Super Bowl. So, with that comes a lot of food coming through the house. Parties. Messes. And Bounty is there to clean it up.
Then, with a Cincinnati-based company too, it's always cool to work with a company that is close to home.
Higgins: You can't have football without wings, and you can't have wings without Bounty.
