Back in 2016, many expected that then-Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater would never play in another NFL game. Fast forward to 2026, and Bridgewater is retiring (for a second time) after 11 NFL seasons.
Bridgewater suffered a devastating knee injury during practice with the Vikings in 2016. At the time, he had emerged as Vikings' franchise quarterback, but the injury changed the trajectory of his entire career.
After bouncing around the league largely as a backup, Bridgewater returned to Detroit this offseason to be Jared Goff's backup. On Sunday, though, Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that Bridgewater had decided to retire.
On Monday, Bridgewater took to Instagram to explain the decision.
