If they cut ties with guard Gordan Giricek, whether through a trade or buyout, the Jazz could risk helping some of the Western Conference's top teams, league sources said Friday.
Among the teams most interested in trading for Giricek are Phoenix and Dallas. The Suns had interest in Giricek this summer as a piece in a potential Andrei Kirilenko deal and Dallas called about Giricek recently.
The Jazz have yet to make an official announcement regarding Giricek, who was sent home from this road trip after arguing with coach Jerry Sloan during a second-quarter timeout in Wednesday's loss to Charlotte.

I've never really seen Giricek play, so I'm wondering..

Where does he help us? Can he fill in for Doris and do what Doris is capable of doing, but doesn't do because he's(Diaw) soft?
We need a big man who can rebound...why are we trying to acquire more shooters?..

some stats on his career/season respectively:

PPG: 9.8/4.3
Apg: 1.5/0.7
RPG: 2.5/1.4
3p%: 37%/35%
FG%: 44%/40%
MPG: 24/12

so his minutes are down and his stats have fallen accordingly, however if he came off the bench for us for 24 minutes we could get 10/2/3 with some pretty good 3 shooting out of him. he's good enough to come off our bench and add a little depth, but i wonder what we would give up in a trade situation. i also wonder how much money he would want for us to sign him. Utah has also used him as a defender off the bench because he is a pretty competent defender (and brewer is not)_. that would be nice to have in our second unit, imo.

He's a decent player, but he's not going to come here for the minimum. He can draw more money than that in the free agent market. The Suns inquired about trading for him and obviously that went no where because we probably just offered Marcus Banks. If he were willing to come here cheaply for 1 season then he'd be a great rental and would back up Raja very well off the bench. I'd play him alongside Barbosa when Nash is out because he's better at creating his own shot than Bell is. I'd call him a poor man's Ginobili.

This team definitely needs another player that D'Antoni would actually allow on the floor. Statistically, Giricek is very, very similar to Raja and if arwillan is right about his D, he probably won't be much of a step down in that area. He is an inch taller than Bell, 7 lbs heavier, 1 year younger with 2 years less experience in the NBA. While his 3 pt shooting isn't so good this year, last year he shot 42% though over his career he's been up and down from year to year - best year besides last year 40%, worst year 31%.

Current salary is 4.0 million vs. Raja at 4.7, so its about what one should expect. We could tell Utah we'd take him off their hands in exchange for Banks, if they'd throw in Millsap as cap filler - that should give them a good laugh.

Brewer is a risky defender. He is dominating in the steals category but he puts himself out of position much to often to go for the high risk high reward steals. I say in 2 seasons he will be a lethal defender at the 2. He is oversized as it is and seems to be bulking up even more every time I watch jazz games.

This is the type of deal I hope the Suns can pull off (and its actually reasonable that it could happen too). If Giricek would be willing to sign a cheap, 1 year deal, he'll give the Suns another player to add to their rotation, pushing it to 9 players. It also gives them that 3 point shooter a lot of us have been saying they need. I'd be thrilled if the Suns can bring him in midseason a la Jimmy Jackson/Tim Thomas.
