Team USA Manager Reveals What Makes Roman Anthony 'Special' originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Team USA fell into Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony when Corbin Carroll went down with a broken hamate bone last month, and Carroll's injury has proven to be a blessing in disguise for Team USA.
Anthony has helped carry USA throughout the World Baseball Classic, especially last week. He launched a three-run homer against Mexico on Monday before smacking the game-winning homer against the Dominican Republic on Sunday.
Not bad for a 21-year-old kid in his first World Baseball Classic.
On Monday, Team USA manager Mark DeRosa explained what makes Anthony special during his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."
"Roman Anthony is special and the moment is never too big for him..
Red Sox fans are gonna have a nice time with him for the next fifteen years" ~ @markdero7#PMSLivepic.twitter.com/8o3RhMIQpM

"Special relationship with him," DeRosa said. "Special. 21 years old, to come in and handle himself the way he has. The quality of at-bats, the way the moment's not too big for him, starting every game...he's been carrying us. Yeah, you're gonna have a nice 15 years, a nice time in Boston with this dude."
Not only is Anthony the youngest player on Team USA, but he's also the youngest player to hit a home run in the semifinal or final of a WBC game.
Even more impressively, this is the first time Anthony's ever been in an environment like this. He's never played in an All-Star Game or MLB playoff game before, and this is his first WBC.
However, that hasn't stopped him from stepping up and putting his stamp on this tournament, regardless of what happens during the final on Tuesday.
