Caitlin Clark has heard plenty of praise throughout her basketball career. From college records to WNBA milestones, accolades have followed the Indiana Fever superstar at every stop. But when one of the most respected voices in basketball says something that confirms what fans have been arguing for years, people tend to take notice.

That's exactly what happened Thursday night. Current Team USA head coach Kara Lawson didn't hesitate when asked about Clark's unique ability as a playmaker during Indiana's Commissioner’s Cup matchup against the Atlanta Dream. In fact, Lawson's response left little room for debate.

Kara Lawson delivered a statement that turned heads

While appearing on the broadcast, Lawson was discussing Clark's ability to create opportunities for teammates when she offered perhaps the strongest endorsement possible.

"I mean she's one of the best playmakers in the country, in the world," Lawson said. "Not just the country, right?"

Just like that, one of the most accomplished coaches in basketball made her opinion crystal clear. This wasn't a television analyst making a hot take. This was the head coach of Team USA.

And her message was simple: Clark belongs in the conversation with the best playmakers anywhere on the planet.

Lawson has seen it up close

What makes the comments even more significant is that Lawson isn't speaking from a distance. She coached Clark during the FIBA Women's World Cup qualifying tournament earlier this year and witnessed firsthand what makes the Fever guard so difficult to defend.

Clark earned tournament MVP honors while averaging 11.6 points and 6.4 assists across five games. Her most memorable performance came against Senegal, where she posted 17 points and 12 assists while controlling the game from start to finish.

For Lawson, those weren't highlights viewed on social media. They were performances she watched unfold from the sideline. That perspective gives her words extra weight.

Clark reminded everyone against Atlanta

Ironically, Lawson's comments came at the perfect time. Just one game earlier, Clark endured one of the quieter performances of her season, scoring only six points in Indiana's loss to Portland.

Predictably, critics were quick to pounce. Clark's response? A near triple-double against Atlanta.

The Fever star finished with 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds while helping Indiana secure an 83-71 victory and its first Commissioner's Cup win of the season.

While Kelsey Mitchell's 25-point performance and milestone 5,000th career point grabbed headlines, Clark once again showed why she remains one of the most impactful players in the league.

The praise Fever fans won't forget

Clark's scoring ability often dominates conversations. Her deep three-pointers generate viral clips. Her logo-range shooting fills arenas. Her offensive explosions make national headlines.

But Lawson's comments highlighted something different. The part of Clark's game that coaches value most. Her ability to see plays before they happen. Her ability to create opportunities that few players even recognize.

And her ability to completely change a game without necessarily leading the scoring column. For Fever fans, Lawson's comments felt like validation. For everyone else, they served as a reminder. One of the most respected coaches in basketball just made her opinion known, and she didn't limit it to the United States.

According to Kara Lawson, Caitlin Clark isn't just one of the best playmakers in the country.

She's one of the best in the world.
