The Texas Tech football 2026 regular-season finale against TCU will move to Thanksgiving, according to a joint announcement between the schools and the Big 12.
The two teams will play on Thursday, Nov. 26, at Jones Stadium.
The schools and the conference also announced that the Texas Tech-Houston game, the Big 12 opener for both teams, is moving to Sept. 18, a Friday night and one day earlier than originally scheduled. The kickoff time and television coverage for both games will be announced later, according to Tech's announcement.
The Tech-Houston date change was expected and prompted a testy exchange last week between Texas Tech University System Board of Regents chairman Cody Campbell, who objected, and Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark, who in a statement to the Avalanche-Journal said, "Cody Campbell does not run the Big 12."
The Tech-Houston and Tech-TCU games were among nine that the Big 12's primary television partners, FOX and ESPN, selected to move off of Saturdays this season.
Here are the nine. All except the TCU-Tech game are on Fridays.
Missouri at Kansas, Sept. 11; Houston at Texas Tech, Sept. 18; Iowa State at Brigham Young, Oct. 9; Baylor at Central Florida, Oct. 30; TCU at Arizona, Nov. 6; Houston at Colorado, Nov. 13; Iowa State at Central Florida, Nov. 20; TCU at Texas Tech, Nov. 26; West Virginia at Utah, Nov. 27.
