Restricted free agent Tari Eason has agreed to a new contract with the Houston Rockets worth $81.5 Million over 5 years. This is a very cheap price, as it averages to only $16.3 million per year.
Tari Eason was drafted 17th overall in 2022 by the Houston Rockets and has played in Houston ever since. In his extended tenure, he has built himself a prominent role for the team.
Eason is coming off of a solid season, where he was effective on both sides of the floor. He started a career-high 34 games and averaged 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, to go along with .5 blocks in around 26 minutes per game.
Eason's main strength is his versatility. Standing at six feet and eight inches tall, with a wingspan of seven feet and two inches, gives him long and athletic physicality. He has used his gifted genetics to become a dominant defensive presence.
Eason's size and speed make him an elite perimeter defender and allows him to guard against any position. His career defensive rating of 110.8 is proof of the pudding, and is a reason why he works so well under Ime Udoka's coaching technique.
Eason is reliable on offense as well, as he is a great offensive rebounder due to his length and athleticism. Out of the 6.3 rebounds per game that he averaged, 2.1 of those rebounds were offensive which accumulates for 33% of the total. Most players offensive rebounds attribute for around 20-25% of their total rebounds, and Eason's 33% is a huge step up from the average.
Offensive rebounding is maybe his best offensive attribute; however, his offense is still developing. He finished the 2025-2026 season shooting at a solid 41.6%, and shot at 35.8% from three.
Overall, his contributions to his team has earned him what might be considered a lucrative deal. However, when looking at his athleticism, effectiveness and overall potential, the Houston Rockets got a bargain deal in the value of his contract.
His large size, strong rebounding, high basketball IQ, and his overall relentlessness make him an ideal asset in Ime Udoka's strategy. He is a perfect fit in fact, as Udoka relies on defensive versatility and constant hustle.
Signing Eason is a step towards both a strong long-term franchise, while also giving them increased hope of being more competitive in the coming season. How important of a signing is Tari Eason to the Houston Rockets?
