As expected, WBC bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue and superstar Tenshin Nasukawa will run it back on September 27th at Tokyo’s Toyota Arena.
Inoue (22-2, 5 KO) pushed past a tricky start to comfortably beat Nasukawa (8-1, 3 KO) by unanimous decision last November, snapping the younger man’s 53-fight, multi-sport winning streak in professional competition. They’ve each competed once since, respectively taking out Hall of Fame veterans Kazuto Ioka and Juan Francisco Estrada this past spring.
Like I said before, probably a little early for a rematch, but Tenshin was on fire against Estrada and could make for a much stiffer challenge this time if that was due to personal improvement as opposed to “El Gallo’s” declined.
Organizers have yet to officially announce the undercard. Previous reporting claimed that super featherweight standout Tomoya Tsuboi (3-0, 2 KO) would meet South Africa’s Ricardo Malajika (17-2, 12 KO) in September for “Bam” Rodriguez’s former WBC title, which would make it a natural fit for this show. Siyakholwa Kuse (10-3-1, 4 KO) could also make the first defense of his WBC minimumweight title, which he took from Melvin Jerusalem in last May’s rematch, against Ryusei Matsumoto (8-0, 4 KO).
I’ve seen chatter of Seigo Yuri Akui vs David Jimenez, but have yet to find a definitive source.
