In that respect, how many teams signed FA's to a long term deal who didn't work out and then had to swallow dead cap costs for a few years?

No one has a crystal ball. It happens to all teams from time to time.

How many draftees did the Patriots cut in the past two years?
i don't think i would base any argument FOR the Cards and use the Pats as the team for comparison.

Why not. This shows that even the Patriots can make mistakes. Why do you expect Graves to be perfect?

The Pats draft players that aren't going to be good enough to oust their vets. That's a little different than cutting vets who weren't able to outplay your undrafted free agents from the year before.

Personally, I'd rather eat a 6th round rookie's $10,000 signing bonus than Kendrick Clancy's $3 million (or whatever) signing bonus.

The Pats don't make mistakes, they're just already really good and can get veterans to take pay cuts to play for them.

Again, where are all the teams that are cutting their high-profile FA signings after 10 months?

Graves and perfect may never be used in the same sentence again. Of course,nobody is perfect but i thought it's pretty much a stretch to compare Graves to the team with the best front office in the league. NE cuts draft picks because their roster is loaded with talent. Graves cuts 3rd rounders because of total mis-evaluation on the guy's ability to play in the NFL. Let's start out by comparing Graves to teams like the Lions.That would be more realistic.

The Hood signing I thought was a VERY solid Signing... Holt should have been cut Mid-season if you ask me...

Some interesting trivia I heard during a broadcast. James had the fewest negative run plays out of all starting RB's in 2006.

if that could be confirmed somewhere, that would be amazing. i mean, like eating an entire wheel of cheese amazing!

perfect? no. at the very very very least AVERAGE would be okay. i don't think we've gotten even that out of his tenure.

I don't hate the guy either, but that doesn't mean he's a great defensive player. There are lots of nice guys who played in college who aren't suited for the NFL. Perhaps he is one of them. Perhaps not. I just hope the Cards don't pay him all that money to find out, especially since it is rather obvious after this season that he is not the player we need.

Maybe we should try him at WR, afterall he continually got great separation.

I thought he was solid too, but that he fell victim to us becoming a more pass oriented team with Warner in there.

Plus we put our TE's in as the FB often. We would either start them out there or motion them to that position. Either way Troy B. Should never be a lead blocker.

Smith needs to earn that 1 Mill he is making for a FB, and taking him out in favor of one of the TE's is one of the craziest things I saw from the coaching staff this season.

That was the biggest improvement I saw. But how bad has James become if we have the least negative rushes, but still dont have a good running game.

The ground game was progressing fine until Levi was injured. Is that just a coincidence?

two things:

it was musical chairs along the o-line from games 1 through 9 or so--

the other is that after Warner came back post Carolina, I think defenses decided to take their chances with him rather than the running game

If I were a defensive coordinator facing the Cards with Warner at QB, I would want the ball in his hands until he makes me pay for it -- I may give up passing yards, but figure that my defense will get the interception and/or sack and fumble that turns the game.

Before Levi was hurt, the only position change was at center and Sendlein did a great job.

The first 3 games before Levi was hurt, James averages were;
3.5, 5.3, 5.7

The next 5 games where Levi was out or came off of the bench, James averaged;
3.7, 3.4, 3.7, 3.1, 1.7

The rest of the season when Levi was starting, James averaged;
3.3, 2.4, 4.6, 4.8, 3.5, 5.3, 2.6, 4.3

I think we were definitly better running with him in there.

Those who dislike Levi will continue to do so. Same with those who like him. Just like how we treat Reggie Wells.

What matters is what Grimm and Whisenhunt think of Levi.

I used to think Wells was a waste at OG, but was ok at OT.

This year Wells was OK at OG. I dont think he is a waste like I have before. Grimm has made a bigger impact on that line than I have ever seen in the past.
