It is a busy day of news for the Syracuse Orange, and that is continuing. The team appears to be losing its top scorer and rebounder from the 2025-26 season.

Forward Donnie Freeman, who played two years for the Orange, is entering the portal, according to a report from Tobias Bass of The Athletic. On3 released a similar report shortly after. Freeman was one of the top names on the 2024 recruiting rankings when he initially committed to Syracuse.

Freeman is coming off a season where he averaged 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 31.3 minutes per game. That production came in 23 games (21 starts) after missing part of 2025-26 with injury. It was enough to earn him an All-ACC honorable mention nod.

For his career, Freeman suited up in 37 games across his two years with the program. If Freeman is gone for good, he ends his time with Syracuse averaging 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.

Freeman is the sixth player from last year’s Orange to enter the transfer portal, joining guards Naithan George and Luke Fennell, forward Tyler Betsey, wing Aaron Womack, and center Tiefeng Diawara.
