It'll be No. 1 Sussex Hamilton or No. 2 Muskego winning its first WIAA state softball title on Saturday night, June 13 after Hamilton's dramatic 3-2 nine-inning victory over Sun Prairie East and Muskego's 6-2 victory over Appleton North in the Division 1 semifinals Friday, June 12 in Madison.

In Hamilton's win, Ava Serembiczky had the game-winning hit with two out in the ninth, scoring Abby McCauley.

Bitsy Palicka was the winning pitcher for Hamilton, going all nine innings, allowing eight hits with two runs (both earned) with four walks and 11 strikeouts against the Cardinals.

Allison Giese took the defeat for SPE, going 8⅔ innings with 11 hits allowed with three runs allowed (all earned) with a walk and eight strikeouts.


Muskego got multi-hit games from Reese Heinrich and Kyleigh Sadler, while Grace Swiezynski drilled a three-run home run in a four-run third inning for the Warriors in their victory over the Lightning.

Cora Jahimiak went all seven innings for Muskego, allowing seven hits with two runs (both earned), two walks and six punchouts.


In the final, Muskego (28-2) will play Hamilton (29-1) at about 6:30 p.m. at the Goodman Diamond on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, the last of five finals throughout the day.

  • Division 5 championship: No. 1 Belmont (22-6) vs. No. 2 Almond-Bancroft (27-1), 8 a.m.
  • Division 4 championship: No. 4 Johnson Creek (26-4) vs. No. 2 Mineral Point (27-4), about 10:30 a.m.
  • Division 3 championship: No. 1 Lomira (26-2) vs. No. 3 Lodi (21-7), about 1 p.m.
  • Division 2 championship: No. 4 Pewaukee (21-9) vs. No. 3 Fox Valley Lutheran (25-3), 4 p.m.
  • Division 1 championship: No. 2 Muskego (28-2) vs. No. 1 Sussex Hamilton (29-1), about 6:30 p.m.
