Sunderland faces Wrexham at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania on Sunday as both clubs finish their American tours.

Sunderland finished seventh in the Premier League last season with 54 points, its first campaign back in the top flight since 2016-17.

That was enough for a Europa League spot, which brings European soccer back to the Stadium of Light for the first time since 1973-74.

Wrexham has spent its tour picking off bigger clubs. Phil Parkinson's side beat Manchester United 1-0 and Leeds 3-2, then lost 1-0 to Liverpool at Yankee Stadium.

The Welsh club missed the Championship playoffs by two points last season in its return to the second tier, and it opens the EFL Cup at Middlesbrough on August 7.

Sunday also counts as a homecoming for co-owner Rob McElhenney, a Philadelphia native. He and Ryan Reynolds bought the club in 2020 and have watched it climb three divisions since.
