Hereford FC say they have not seen the pitch this wet in more than 20 years [Herford FC]

Hereford FC were forced to postpone one of their matches due to the impact of heavy rainfall caused by Storm Chandra.

The team were due to play Oxford City FC at the M and M Edgar Street Stadium on Tuesday, but a waterlogged pitch meant the game could no longer go ahead.

It was one of at least six matches in National League North postponed due to the heavy rain.

Club chairman Chris Ammonds said he remained confident the Bulls would play all their home games at Edgar Street this season, but acknowledged a run of rearranged mid-week games meant the club might lose out financially.

Ammonds said: "We were hit really hard yesterday in Herefordshire, but we've also been affected in our attempts to travel around the rest of the north of England as well.

"Our general manager has worked at the club for 20 years and he has never seen the pitch as wet as it was this morning - all areas of the pitch are absolutely sodden."

Hereford FC are set to head to Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

Ammonds said more than anything the team "just want to start playing football" and needed some "momentum" in their season.

"We seem to be playing once every 10 days and for the squad it must be incredibly frustrating. We want to get the lads back on the field and hopefully get a run of games together," he said.

Supporters who have purchased tickets for the postponed game have been asked to wait for the rearranged date to be confirmed before applying for a refund.
