STING LOOK TO CUT DOWN LUMBERJAX THIS WEEKEND

The Arizona Sting will take on the Portland Lumberjax this weekend in a home-and-home series. Friday night, the divisional rivals will clash at Jobing.com Arena with Saturday night’s contest scheduled to take place at the Rose Garden in Portland.
The Sting (1-1) defeated the San Jose Stealth last Saturday by a score of 14-11 at the HP Pavilion. Dan Dawson (4G-4A-8P) and Rob Blasdell (44 saves) led the way for Arizona in their first victory of 2007.

Arizona and Portland faced off three times last season, with each team winning once on their home floor in the regular season. In the playoffs, the Sting bested the Lumberjax by a score of 14-11 at the Rose Garden on April 22, 2006 to earn a second consecutive berth in the NLL West Division Final. Sting Head Coach Bob Hamley is anticipating a pair of hard-fought matches against the Lumberjax this weekend, as the two teams meet for the first time since their playoff battle eight months ago.

“Portland is a very tight team,” said Hamley. “They play extremely well together and we know that we’ll be in for a couple of tough games this weekend.”

Portland enters this weekend’s action with a perfect record of 2-0, having extended their regular season win streak to eight games by virtue of their 14-12 road win in Philadelphia last weekend.

“We’re rolling along pretty good right now,” said Lumberjax Head Coach Derek Keenan. “This will be a really difficult test for us this weekend against Arizona though. Hopefully we’ll be well prepared for these games and come out with a couple of wins.”

Friday night’s match at Jobing.com Arena is scheduled to start at 7:30pm. Saturday night’s contest gets underway at the Rose Garden in Oregon at 8:00pm Arizona time. Both games can be seen live on B2 Networks (www.b2now.com).
