Kenton Ridge is three outs from a second consecutive state title.

After Chloe Glass and Lily Foulk reached via a hit and hit by pitch to start the sixth, LV brought Emory Whisner back in to face the heart of KR’s order — Brenna Fyffe, Jayden Davis and Ivee Rastatter.

Fyffe hit a fly ball to center that advanced both base runners. Jayden Davis worked the count to 2-1 and slapper a base hit to right that gave the Cuugars its first lead of the game 7-6.

Annie Fincham made a leaping catch for the second out in the sixth. Chloe Glass nearly made a diving one in right against the next batter but the ball popped out of her glove as they simultaneously hit the turf.

Ivee Rastatter retired six of seven after allowing her sixth run of the game back in the third. That run of not allowing a hit ended on a soft bouncing ball by Chloe Cooperider in the fifth.

Rastatter’s second home run of the day made it a one-run game in the fourth. Her 15th home run of the season came on an 1-0 pitch with two outs and went out toward the scoreboard in right center field.

Alexa Gilliam made a diving catch in right center to take a hit away from Annie Fincham in the fifth.

Akron is being treated to a dynamic display of hitting by both sides.

Kenton Ridge put five baserunners on in the first two innings but was unable to plate a run. Cara Cammon laid down a bunt with runners at second and third and one out in the second.

With the Panthers ahead 1-0 in the third, Emory Whisner hit a two-run home run around the right field foul pole and Alexa Gilliam followed it up with a solo shot to center. LV added two more on in the inning to lead 6-0.

KR fought back by getting its first six batters to reach in the bottom of the third, including a double by Jayden Davis and two-run homer by Ivee Rastatter. LV starting pitching Emory Whisner was subbed out of the game and Tori Baughman replaced her in the circle, getting three straight outs.
