West Virginia baseball coach Steve Sabins has been named the 2026 Mike Martin National Coach of the Year, as voted by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association.
Sabins is in his second year leading the Mountaineers and has the team in Omaha for the first time in program history, after sweeping Cal Poly by a combined 29 runs in the Super Regional last weekend. In two seasons, he’s continued the mission started by Randy Mazey and has taken WVU from a program that had never reached the College World Series to one that enters Omaha with the best team ERA in the field.
The award is named after longtime Florida State head coach Mike Martin, who won 2,029 games over 40 seasons — the most in college baseball history.
Sabins becomes the first West Virginia coach to win the award.
The Mountaineers open College World Series play this afternoon against Troy at 2 p.m. ET at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
