Not often do you see a rookie quarterback play just two quarters of a preseason game and immediately become the hottest commodity for fan gear and apparel. However, that unlikelihood became reality for the Pittsburgh Steelers after the team’s preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, as rookie quarterback Drew Allar became a fan-favorite in the matter of hours.

Allar completed 10 of 13 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, while also running in for another score. That kind of performance led to the Steelers Pro Shop selling out of No. 16 jerseys.

Allar led Pittsburgh downfield on each of the three drives he was part of, all of which ended with touchdowns.

It’s rare for a rookie to generate this much excitement as a prospect, as it is genuinely reasonable to think he has the potential to do more under head coach Mike McCarthy. Pittsburgh is still searching for its long-term solution at football’s most valuable position, and Allar is doing his best to show he can be the answer.
