When the Pittsburgh Steelers announced the jersey numbers for their 2026 rookie class, we were all a little shocked that wide receiver Kaden Wetjen was assigned No. 42. Numbers in the 40s are typically reserved for defensive backs and the occasional fullback, not a wide receiver and return specialist.

At Iowa, Wetjen wore No. 21 but according to an Instagram conversation, he isn't getting his old number back and instead will wear No. 10. No. 42 was more recently worn by cornerback James Pierre before leaving via free agency this offseason.

No. 10 was last worn by wide receiver Roman Wilson but he actually gave that number up this offseason to switch to his old college No. 14. The number was worn by running back Kenneth Gainwell last season.
