The Pittsburgh Steelers are saying goodbye to many longtime employees.
CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on Tuesday that defensive line coach Karl Dunbar is among the assistant coaches not being retained by new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy.
Dunbar, 58, is renowned for his work with the likes of T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, and ookie defensive linemen Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black. Dunbar joined the organization back in 2018, following stints with the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, as well as at Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma State.
Dunbar is also known for his on-field work at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The Steelers are expected to have an exodus of assistant coaches following Mike Tomlin stepping down from the head coach position and Mike McCarthy being hired as the replacement — with former offensive coordinator Arthur Smith leaving for the same position at Ohio State, defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and outside linebackers coach Denzel Martin having interviewed for lateral moves, and special teams coordinator Danny Smith leaving for the same job at Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
