The Pittsburgh Steelers are still playing the waiting game with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but may have smoothed the way for his signing this week.
Rodgers has met with the team's top brass and saw his other potential NFL options whittled away as other quarterback-needy teams made decisions, but has yet to make a final decision. While reports indicate that the Steelers are confidence he will ultimately sign in Pittsburgh, Rodgers has kept the team waiting.
The Steelers may not just be sitting on their hands. The Athletic's Jeff Howe reported that the team's decision to trade wide receiver George Pickens may have had Rodgers in mind.
"Speaking of quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers remains the elephant in the room," Howe wrote. "He’s their presumed quarterback for 2025, if he ever signs with them, and the Steelers made his job harder on Sundays without Pickens on the roster. Still, it’s one less distraction for Rodgers to worry about as he focuses on a passing attack centered around the recently acquired wideout DK Metcalf and tight end Pat Freiermuth."

Still, the Steelers may be largely in the dark about Rodgers. ESPN's Peter Schrager said this week in an appearance on the "Pat McAfee Show" that Rodgers and his camp are not giving much indication to the team about when or if he might sign.
"Pittsburgh knows no more now than they did at the draft or before the draft," Schrager said.
