The Pittsburgh Steelers' two young quarterbacks, rookie third-rounder Drew Allar and Will Howard, received some additional work following the absence of Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph during Day 8 of OTAs.

According to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, head coach Mike McCarthy revealed that the final week of OTAs is more about the younger players getting reps, with plenty of work for Allar and Howard.

Mike McCarthy said this last week of OTAs is all about getting reps for the younger guys. With no Aaron Rodgers or Mason Rudolph at today’s practice, that meant a lot of work for Drew Allar and Will Howard. pic.twitter.com/GoDHbZlxRf

Howard, selected by the Steelers with the 185th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, was expected by many to be Rodgers' heir apparent. That was until the Steelers shocked many by drafting Allar in the third round of last April's draft.

This week of OTAs could offer fans an early glimpse of the future positional battle between Howard and Allar, with both young players aiming to be the signal-caller who replaces Rodgers following his likely retirement at the end of the 2026 season.
