The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy to begin the offseason. After losing Mike Tomlin following his surprise resignation from the team, they moved quickly to hire former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy to replace him. And now that he’s in charge of the Steelers, McCarthy has made his first big addition to his new coaching staff.

Shortly after the news of McCarthy’s hire became official, reports emerged indicating that he was targeting Las Vegas Raiders’ defensive coordinator Patrick Graham to come in and fill his defensive coordinator vacancy in Pittsburgh. After days of rumors, the Steelers officially announced Graham as their new defensive coordinator on Friday night.

“We have named Patrick Graham as our defensive coordinator,” the Steelers announced in a post on their official X account.

While Graham had spent the past four seasons working as the Raiders’ defensive coordinator, he previously worked on McCarthy’s staff with the Packers in 2018 as his linebackers coach and run game coordinator. That familiarity made Graham a logical addition to McCarthy’s coaching staff as he begins to take charge of the Steelers.

Now that Graham is officially onboard, McCarthy’s next big goal involves finding a new offensive coordinator to come in and replace Arthur Smith. Once that hire gets made, Pittsburgh can turn its attention to its roster, as it has several big questions to answer before the 2026 campaign arrives.
