Less than a week from the 2026 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers would be wise to take a chance on one Day 3 prospect who's been drawing comparisons to 49ers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey.

Eli Heidenreich, a versatile playmaker who's excelled at fullback, running back, and wide receiver for the Navy Midshipmen, could be available when Pittsburgh makes a few of their Day 3 draft picks.

Here's a look at Heidenreich's scouting report, containing information on his bio, strengths, concerns, stats, and highlights.

Eli Heidenreich, RB/WR/FB, Navy​

  • Height: 6 feet
  • Weight: 198 pounds
  • 40-yard dash: 4.44 seconds
  • Projection: Sixth- to seventh-round

Strengths​

  • Excellent deep ball tracking skills
  • Game-changing versatility
  • Great body control
  • Ball security is outstanding (one fumble since 2023)

Concerns​

  • Arm length concerns (29 1/4")
  • Route tree needs work
  • Production has declined against better competition

Stats​

  • 2023: 27 carries, 214 yards, one touchdown
  • 2024: 65 carries, 444 yards, 3 touchdowns
  • 2025: 77 carries, 499 yards, 3 touchdowns
