With plenty of roster needs to address in the upcoming free agency period, the Pittsburgh Steelers could target a talented safety with ties to the Steel City.
Currently, the Steelers have just Jalen Ramsey, who started last season at cornerback, and DeShon Elliott, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 8, as their starting safety tandem heading into 2026. If Pittsburgh wants an upgrade in the secondary, look no further than safety Jaquan Brisker of the Chicago Bears.
Brisker, a Pittsburgh native, fits the Steelers defense beyond just his ties to the city. A physical and elite tackler, Brisker is one of the best run-stopping safeties in the NFL.
With questions surrounding Elliott's health, and Chuck Clark as well as Kyle Dugger set to leave Pittsburgh in free agency, pairing Brisker opposite Ramsey would give the Steelers arguably a top-three safety duo that stops the run as well as they'd defend against the pass.
Spotrac projects Brisker will command an average annual value of $10 million, which would be the fourth-highest of any safeties in free agency. The Steelers would likely need to offer Brisker a three-year, $30 million deal to turn the Steel City homecoming into a reality.
