With NFL free agency drawing near, the Pittsburgh Steelers and their fans are anxiously awaiting a decision from legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers on his future. However, the team has other players set to hit the open market, meaning it can’t simply stand pat and wait for Rodgers to determine if he’s going to return for the upcoming 2026 campaign or not.
One guy who is set to hit the open market is veteran cornerback James Pierre. A former undrafted free agent, Pierre has spent the first six seasons of his career with the Steelers, often working as one of the team’s secondary cornerbacks. However, according to reports, Pierre could be on the move this offseason, as he’s set to draw interest from “eight to nine” teams.
“I’m told ‘8 to 9’ teams are currently expected to have preliminary interest in impending free agent Pittsburgh Steelers CB James Pierre, per source. Corner is a big need in the upcoming market,” NFL insider Josina Anderson reported in a post on X.
Pierre enjoyed the best season of his career in 2025, as he racked up 30 tackles, one interception, 11 pass deflections, and one touchdown (which came off a fumble recovery). The Steelers are well-stocked at cornerback, though, so it remains to be seen if they will try to re-sign Pierre. Even if they do, though, it may not matter if he ends up drawing as much interest as he’s expected to.
