There was a thought that the Pittsburgh Steelers could send defensive tackle Cameron Heyward into 2026 as a lame duck on the last year of his contract. However, according to Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, the Steelers and Heyward have agreed on a one-year extension to keep Heyward on the team through 2027.

According to Dulac, the re-worked contract will save the Steelers $5.5 million in 2026 and is worth $32.25 million over two years. Only the first year is guaranteed. Heyward was set to have a cap hit of $19.1 million this season and this is Heyward's fifth contract with the Steelers.

Heyward is 37 years old and coming off a dreadful season. But to be fair, the Steelers defensive front from Heyward to T.J. Watt struggled to put up numbers in 2025. Pittsburgh is showing loyalty to Heyward with this extra year and is counting on a bounce-back season with a new defense and coaching staff in place.
