Steelers adding IUP Offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. to staff

According to Pittsburgh Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, the Steelers are adding former Pitt offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. to head coach Mike McCarthy's offensive staff. Cignetti is currently the offensive coordinator for Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).

Cignetti is well-travelled between college football and the NFL but rarely stays at any stop for very long. Cignetti and McCarthy worked together in 2018 when McCarthy was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers and Cignetti was the quarterbacks coach for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers went 6-9-1 that season and Rodgers threw for 4,442 yards. He is the brother of University of Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti.

Mike McCarthy is adding former Pitt and IUP coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. to his offensive staff, per sources. Cignetti was McCarthy's QB coach in Green Bay in 2018.

McCarthy is currently filling out his coaching staff but it isn't clear what Cignetti's role would be. He could be a candidate for offensive coordinator or continue his current role with a new team. The Steelers are also interested in current New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien.
