The Pittsburgh Steelers' decision to hire Mike McCarthy was polarizing, to say the least. But regardless of how Steelers Nation feels about the move, one former Super Bowl champion head coach is excited about what McCarthy will bring to Pittsburgh.
On a new episode of Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden retold a story about how McCarthy's passion was evident during blocking drills with his own players before explaining that he's excited to see him join up with the Steelers.
“I just hope he goes into Pittsburgh with a case of whoop a--,” Gruden said. “And I hope you guys trust him and roll with him because he is a hell of a coach.”
Some, such as former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch and beat writer Ray Fittipaldo, believe McCarthy will shake things up in a big way on offense. And that's exactly what Gruden expects.
McCarthy wasn't the only head coach with ties to the Steelers that Gruden discussed on Cam Heyward's podcast, as Mike Tomlin and his potential trade value were also topics of conversation.
