AUSTIN — The UIL state track meet is underway, and multiple athletes from the Amarillo area have already earned spots on the podium at the University of Texas.

Canyon's Lathan Lewter won the Class 4A 3,200-meter run on Thursday morning, May 1, to earn a gold medal at Mike A. Myers Stadium, while and Randall's Brooke French and Canadian's Konnar McClendon earned silver in the 4A and 3A girls races, respectively.

Lewter, a Stephen F. Austin pledge, clocked a time of 9 minutes, 11.83 seconds, to claim first place after a fifth-place finish last year.

Behind Lewter, Canyon's Ryan Fernandez and Noah Cooper placed fourth and sixth. Lewter led throughout and wasn't seriously challenged, but he had to sprint to the finish to beat Burnet's Victor Aviles (9:15.96).

French, a sophomore who helped the Lady Raiders win their first state title in soccer last month, was second in the Class 4A girls 3,200 in 11:09.38.

McClendon, a Midwestern State commit, finished in 11:02.68 in a wire-to-wire second place after placing sixth in 2024. Universal City's Randolph's Audrey Milan led from the gun to win in 10:46.70.
