Honor Huff hit three free throws with 3.5 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, then added eight of his team-high 21 points in the extra period as West Virginia defeated Stanford 82-77 in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Crown tournament in Las Vegas on Thursday.
With Stanford leading 68-65, Jeremy Dent-Smith missed the second of two free throws with nine seconds left in the second half. Huff then pushed the ball upcourt, drew contact from Benny Gealer just across halfcourt and launched a shot that resulted in the free throws.
Stanford (20-13), which had not played since March 10, trailed by six at halftime but then forged an eight-point lead as Ebuka Okorie scored 21 of his 34 points in the second half. Unfortunately for the Cardinal, they scored just one point in the final 3:21 of regulation after holding a 67-59 lead.
West Virginia (19-14) trailed early in overtime after Ryan Agarwal's three-point play, but the Mountaineers took the lead for good on a basket by Huff with 2:52 remaining.
Okorie was joined in double figures by Aidan Cammann (12 points) and AJ Rohosy (10), who had a game-high nine rebounds.
