Several teams are gearing up for playoff games — and, in some cases, long bus rides — but St. John has a much closer destination and a bit more time to prepare.

The Eagles drew a first-round bye in the LHSAA Division IV playoff bracket released Tuesday afternoon.

No. 12 seed St. John will face No. 5 seed Ouachita Christian in the regional round, which will be played in the period between April 29 and May 4.

In a reversal, of sorts, perennial post-season entry Ascension Catholic, drew the 18th seed. The Donaldsonville-based Bulldogs will travel to No. 15 seed St. Frederick for a bi-district showdown Friday, April 24.

Ascension Christian, which has gradually elevated in status as a solid Division IV-Select ballclub, drew the No. 19 seed. The Lions will travel to Pride to face No. 13 seed Central Private

Opelousas Catholic drew the top seed in the bracket. OCHS will host the winner of No. 16 Central Catholic and No. 17 Hanson Memorial in regional competition set for the period between Apri 29 and May 2.

Fourth-seeded St. Mary’s of Natchitoches — another playoff mainstay — drew a first-round bye along with No. 4 St. Martin’s Episcopal, along with No. 3 seed Cedar Creek.

St. Martin’s faces the winner of Ascension Christian (13) and Westminster (20) in the regional round.

The last two teams will face in a Division IV Select semifinal showdown at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at McMurry Park in Sulphur.
