Spurs fiesta colors, explained: How San Antonio brings cultural feel to NBA playoff games originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Antonio Spurs' colors reflect the way the franchise operated during the Gregg Popovich years: not exactly flashy or eye-popping, but always respectable.
In the Victor Wembanyama era, the Spurs suddenly are one of the NBA's most entertaining teams. While their colors remain black and silver, the revival of the team's "fiesta colors" might better reflect what the on-court product has become.
The Spurs have decked out the Frost Bank Center in pink, orange and turquoise on occasion in the playoffs, with uniforms to match, even while the team's colors remain black and silver.
Here's what you need to know about the Spurs' fiesta colors.

What do the Spurs fiesta colors mean?
The Spurs' fiesta colors are a tribute to Fiesta San Antonio, a festival that has been held annually in the city since 1891.
Fiesta's oldest event is the colorful Battle of Flowers Parade, and the Fiesta logo features six colors — including the three used by the Spurs as fiesta colors.
The Spurs' primary logo first featured a streak of fiesta colors from 1989-2002, though their uniforms notably didn't feature any of those colors. San Antonio continued to wear black and silver even with a logo that prominently featured pink, orange and turquoise.
While their primary logo has been exclusively silver and black since 2002, the Spurs now have an alternate jersey that incorporates the fiesta colors. San Antonio debuted the jersey in 2020 and wore it in Game 1 of its first-round playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers, with a streak of turquoise, pink and orange underneath a "San Antonio" script.

Whether the Spurs would ever make fiesta colors part of their primary look isn't clear, but the pop of color appears to be popular in the Frost Bank Center, where most fans have been willing to put on the colorful shirt that corresponds with their section.

Spurs fiesta t-shirts
Many teams give out shirts to try to make their arena more intimidating in the NBA playoffs, but the Spurs take it a step further by giving out three different types of shirts on their fiesta colors nights.
San Antonio decks out each section of the Frost Bank Center in either orange, pink or turquoise on fiesta nights, and the result is aesthetically pleasing.
The Spurs can't, however, actually wear their fiesta colors alternate jerseys in the Western Conference Finals or NBA Finals due to NBA policy. That can't stop them from letting fans don the fiesta colors, and that's exactly what the team is doing for its first home game of the conference finals.
