Spurs’ De'Aaron Fox gets trade update during NBA Finals originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Antonio Spurs aren't worried about too many things right now other than winning an NBA Finals, though when the offseason comes around, there will be one question they have to answer, and it'll be centered around what the future of De'Aaron Fox looks like.
Fox, who was one of the better guards in the NBA just a few years ago, seemingly isn't the player that he once was.
Unfortunately, it seems like he's lost some of his burst, and with the emergence of Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle, there isn't really much of a reason to have Fox on the roster long term.
While a decision could be made this offseason on that front, it's now being reported that the expectation is it won't happen for at least another year.
“The presumption is that, eventually, the Spurs are going to hand the keys to their young guards, Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle. They already look ready, and moving Fox while he still is at the top of his value would be wise. But they’ll probably hold off on a move for another year,” Sean Deveney of Heavy reported.
I'd be surprised in a sense if the Spurs decide to move things around after making the NBA Finals, even if they don't win it all.
Fox definitely hasn't been great, but he's far from a bad player, though that's not the reason why San Antonio will look to move on from him. It will be because of his contract situation.
