The Pulaski County Maroons made the trip up to Rockcastle County on Tuesday to take part in a district doubleheader against the Rockets. The night ended in great fashion for the visitors, as they managed to sweep both games.
In the girls’ game, it was a tight battle between two of the best teams in the 12th Region, with Pulaski missing key senior Brooklyn Thomas who was in the midst of serving a two-game suspension. Despite trailing early, the Lady Maroons rallied to make it a close game heading into the fourth quarter. There, a late free throw from Lilee Todd was the difference in a 67-66 victory for the Maroons. Head coach Brian Miller noted that the game proved his team was full of fighters.
“Our team plays hard. When we go out on the court, we believe we are going to win. Our kids just kept battling throughout the game and kept finding a way. Just a good team effort,” he explained.
The Lady Maroons improve to 5-1 and will next take on the Lady Jumpers of Somerset in a crosstown clash on Friday.
Next up was the boys’ team, who had a chance to build on a four-game winning streak. Again, the Maroons saw themselves go down early, but a big time shooting performance saw Pulaski down the Rockets by a final score of 68-58.
The Maroons, now 6-2 for the season, will next take on rival Somerset at the Briar Patch on Friday.
