Spencer Jones reacts to potentially joining OKC Thunder: 'More to come'

Now we await. The Oklahoma City Thunder have turned a pretty forgettable weekend into an eventful one. They signed restricted free agent Spencer Jones to a two-year, $12 million offer sheet. The Denver Nuggets will have until late Sunday night to match.

With an open standard roster and money to spend, the Thunder decided to see if they can snatch away quality depth from their divisional rival. Now, Sam Presti and the rest of OKC's front office hope that Jones is its latest addition on Monday.

Jones went undrafted out of Stanford in the 2024 NBA draft. He worked his way up from a two-way spot to a standard deal. The 25-year-old averaged 5.5 points on 50.4% shooting and 3.3 rebounds in 64 games this past season. He shot 39.6% from 3 on 2.3 attempts.

It'll be interesting to see if the Nuggets match Jones' offer sheet. If they do so, they'll be in the second apron — something every NBA front office and ownership has avoided so far. And with Peyton Watson's uncertain future, Denver might be forced to cut ties with one of its best developmental stories in recent history.

Jones took to LinkedIn to react to his two-way offer sheet. His NBA future will be decided this weekend. Either he joins the Thunder for a fresh start or stays on the Nuggets with a pay raise.

"Bet you’ve never seen a free agency announcement on LinkedIn. Neither have I. But here we are," Jones wrote. "Somewhere between refreshing my phone and waiting for the paperwork, this felt like the right place to share it. Not exactly where NBA free agency usually plays out. Maybe that’s what makes it worth sharing here. More to come."

Of course, Jones is the NBA player most known to write down his thoughts on LinkedIn. The unique social media platform typically doesn't house these types of responses. But his affinity for the professional networking and developmental app is something that stands out for the right reasons.
