The head of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, has said that the 2030 World Cup final will take place in Spain.
Louzán made the statement during a gala event on Monday, but football's governing body FIFA has yet to announce where the final of the 2030 tournament spread across six countries will take place.
The matter isn't expected to be decided until after this year's Wolrd Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Spanish media also believe that Louzán wasn't giving a confirmation, but instead he was expressing a wish.
"He expressed a wish, but that's not news, because it's not his place to announce or say anything. FIFA has already assured us that no decision will be made regarding the 2030 World Cup before the 2026 World Cup is over," Cadena Ser journalist Anton Meana said.
The 2030 World Cup will have six host nations spread across three continents.
The vast majority of matches is in Morocco, Portugal and Spain. But in honour of the centenary of the first FIFA World Cup in 1930, a special match and centenary celebration will be held in Uruguay, the first host nation. Argentina and Paraguay will also host one match each.
