Borja Iglesias jokes about Donald Trump handshake

Spanish soccer player Borja Iglesias shared how he would react upon meeting Donald Trump at the World Cup final. The president made an appearance at the highly anticipated final match, where Spain defeated the reigning champion Argentina. ?? ¿SALUDO A DONALD TRUMP?

?️ @BorjaIglesias9: "Espero saludarlo en un momento en el que estemos todos muy contentos, que pase muy rápido y olvidarme. No es el momento de generar polémicas, la gente sabe perfectamente cómo opino pero no tengo tanto poder".

There’s a protocol and a commitment to fulfill out of politeness, even though what my gut tells me to do differs from what I should do,” Iglesias said. “I like people who fight for progress and for fundamental values to be upheld, and I think Trump struggles with that.”

Speaking with Panenka about potentially meeting Trump, Iglesias quipped, “I don’t want to go to prison.” The Celta de Vigo player continued, “I hope to greet him at a time when we are all very happy, and that it passes very quickly and I can forget about it.”

Iglesias added, “I don’t think this is the time to create controversy. People know perfectly well what I think. I would love to do many things, but the reality is that even if people think I am all-powerful, I don’t have that much power to tackle certain things.”

Spain lifted the golden trophy at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, July 19, defeating Argentina, 1-0. The match stayed 0-0 for the 90 minutes, with Spain’s Ferran Torres scoring the winning goal at 16 minutes into the extra time.

Donald Trump attended the match at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, alongside Melania Trump. Additionally, the president took to the field with Gianni Infantino to present the golden trophy to the 2026 World Champions.
