Spain are continuing their breathtaking form at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 2010 World Cup champions recently locked horns with Austria during the Round of 32 in the tournament. As expected, it was a one-sided win for the La Roja.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored a brace while Pedro Porro netted one to lead the Spanish side to a comfortable 3-0 win.
However, if there’s one player who has been rather unappreciated at this World Cup, it’s the Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Unai Simon holds a new Guinness World Record
Not only is the Spanish side undefeated in the World Cup, but they have yet to concede even a single goal. Evidently, the team’s defense and goalkeeper deserve a nod for their efforts.
Keeping that in mind, the Guinness World Records’ official X handle recently highlighted a record that Simon now holds after the 3-0 win over Austria.
“New record: Longest football (soccer) FIFA World Cup clean sheet. The longest time played in World Cup finals matches by a goalkeeper without conceding a goal is 519 minutes by Spain’s Unai Simon,” the X handle wrote.
The record was previously held by Italy’s Walter Zenga, who set the record with 518 minutes without conceding a goal in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
With Spain set to take on Portugal in the Round of 16, it will be interesting to see if Simon can stop the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes from scoring a goal.
