Mar. 17—With the Division II and III NCAA men's basketball tournaments underway and the Division I tournament beginning in full force this week, Southeastern Minnesota will be represented by three players in The Big Dance as they compete for national titles.

Stewartville native Will Tschetter and the first-seeded Michigan Wolverines out of the Midwest region will face the winner of Tuesday's University of Maryland, Baltimore County vs. Howard game, at 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, in Buffalo, N.Y. The game will air on CBS.

UMBC and Howard will play in the First Four at 5:40 p.m. today (March 17), on truTV, to determine the No. 16 seed out of the Midwest.

Tschetter, a 6-foot-8 graduate student forward, is averaging 13.7 minutes per game for the Wolverines. He puts up 3.9 points and 1.9 rebounds per game while shooting .392 from the field, .360 from the 3-point arc, and .903 from the free-throw line (28-for-31, second-best on the team). Tschetter pairs those numbers with 20 total assists, three steals and three blocks.

The Wolverines (31-3) were crowned Big Ten Conference regular-season champions, but fell to Purdue 80-72 in the Big Ten Tournament championship game last Sunday. Michigan's two other losses on the season were to No. 5 seed Wisconsin (91-88) and No. 1 seed Duke (68-63).

Lake City native Nate Heise and the No. 2 seed out of the Midwest Region, Iowa State, will go up against No. 15 Tennessee State in the First Round at 1:50 p.m. on Friday, March 20, in St. Louis, Mo., and on television on CBS.

The 6-foot-5 senior guard averages 4.7 points, four rebounds and 1.6 assists across 24.3 minutes per game. Heise, the younger brother of Olympic women's hockey gold medalist and Minnesota Frost forward Taylor Heise , has also recorded 29 steals and three blocks this season. He shoots 43.1% from the field for the Cyclones, who enter the NCAA tournament with a 27-7 overall record.

Heise hit the game-winning 3-pointer in a 70-67 victory against the No. 2 seed in the South Region, Houston, back on Feb. 17. He finished the night with 11 points.

Of Iowa State's seven losses, six came at the hands of NCAA tournament teams. The Cyclones dropped their Big 12 Tournament semifinal game 82-80 to Arizona, the No. 1 seed out of the West Region.

If all goes well for both the Wolverines and Cyclones, Tschetter and Heise could meet in the Elite Eight in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. To make it happen, the Wolverines will have to get past UMBC/Howard, then the winner of No. 8 Georgia/No. 9 Saint Louis in the second round and the winners of No. 5 Texas Tech/No. 12 Akron and No. 4 Alabama/No. 13 Hofstra in the Sweet 16.

Iowa State would have to defeat Tennessee St., the winner of No. 7 Kentucky/No. 10 Santa Clara in the Second Round, and then the winners of No. 6 Tennessee/No. 11 SMU/No. 11 Miami Ohio and No. 3 Virginia/No. 14 Wright State to make the Elite Eight.

* In the NCAA Division II men's basketball bracket, Lourdes graduate Antewan Webber Jr. will face No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne with No. 2 seed Lander University in the Southeast Regionals at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17. The 6-foot-3 senior guard, who previously played for Florida Gateway, averages 8.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game for Lander (Greenwood, S.C.). The Bearcats are 27-5 on the season. They beat No. 7 Lincoln Memorial and No. 6 Columbus State in the first two rounds to advance.
