Jan. 12—Two new programs ascended to the top of their respective class rankings in the latest South Dakota Prep Media basketball polls: Lyman for Class B girls and West Central for Class A boys.

Lyman, at 5-0, moved into the top spot from No. 2, as last week's No. 1 Centerville was toppled by Gayville-Volin. The Raiders collected 13 of 23 available first-place votes, checking in ahead of No. 2 Parkston and No. 3 Bennett County. Lyman visits the Corn Palace on Saturday for a Hanson Classic matchup against Class A No. 10 Mobridge-Pollock.

West Central knocked off previously top-ranked Sioux Falls Christian in a head-to-head clash last week, ending a reign of 27 straight polls at No. 1 in the Class A boys poll for the Chargers that dated back to December 2023. At the top, the Trojans garnered all 23 first-place votes, while SFC held off Clark/Willow Lake for the No. 2 ranking. Three of West Central's next four opponents — Dakota Valley, St. Thomas More and Lennox — are ranked or receiving votes in the poll.
