COLUMBIA — South Carolina women's basketball made a third straight national championship appearance but for the second straight year, lost in the title game.
The Gamecocks fell 79-51 to UCLA on April 5, a year after losing to UConn 82-59. A historically bad loss on the biggest stage doesn't paint the full picture of what was arguably an overachievement from coach Dawn Staley.
Staley lost two star forwards in Chloe Kitts and Ashlyn Watkins before the season started, then proceeded to lose various players to injuries and illnesses for certain games over the season. She used eight different starting lineups and in 34 of 40 total games, either started or finished the game without a full roster.
South Carolina won the SEC regular-season championship and made it to a sixth straight Final Four, setting an SEC scoring record in March Madness despite 50% of its roster having never played past the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Now Staley is without four key players in Raven Johnson, Ta'Niya Latson, Maryam Dauda and Madina Okot, three of which are expected to be first round WNBA draft picks. She's bringing in three high school players in guard Jerzy Robinson as well as post players, Kelsi Andrews and Kaeli Wynn.
One year ago, MiLaysia Fulwiley left South Carolina and went to LSU, arguably the biggest transfer news out of last offseason. She went 0-2 against her old team this season.
The transfer portal opened April 6 and closes April 20, giving athletes that window to enter their name.
Here's who is leaving and who is coming to South Carolina via the portal ahead of the 2026-27 season.
