Twenty-four hours after trouncing the Texas Legends by 22 points at Comerica Center, the South Bay Lakers faced off against the Legends again in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex on Saturday, looking for another win.
Friday's game was an excellent offensive performance by the Lakers. On Saturday, their offense wasn't clicking, but they put together a defensive masterclass.
South Bay jumped out to a 33-24 lead at the end of the first quarter and was up by as many as 17 points in the second quarter. The first quarter was the only period in which it scored over 24 points, but its defense allowed it to hold off the Legends after it lost its lead late in the second quarter.
The Lakers came out on top with a 104-99 victory by holding Texas to 37.5% shooting from the field and 27.8% from 3-point range. They forced 16 Texas turnovers, which allowed them to score 29 fast-break points while holding Texas to 12 fast-break points.
Drew Timme was the Lakers' top scorer with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while guard R.J. Davis also shot 9-of-17 from the field to score 23 points while also dishing off a game-high seven assists.
Bronny James had a nice outing by hitting half of his 14 shot attempts and going 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. He finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block, although he did commit four turnovers in 34 minutes.
This victory gave South Bay a 13-8 record, which puts it in fifth place in the Western Conference. It trails the first-place Stockton Kings by 1.5 games.
