Sophie Molineux pays tribute to Shane Warne as Australia win Women’s T20 World Cup
Australia women's cricket team captain Sophie Molineux led the team to a massive seven-wicket victory against England in the final of the T20 World Cup at Lord's.
A couple of hours after the win, Molineux came out of the dressing room and drenched herself with a bottle of beer on the Lord's balcony. She was also spotted enjoying with a stump in her hands, paying homage to the legendary Shane Warne by doing what he did following the 1997 Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

Shane Warne’s beer celebration and its Ashes 1997 origins
In the 1997 Ashes third Test between Australia and England at Trent Bridge, Warne delivered one of the match-winning performances with seven wickets.
The Australian team was in control and won the match by a huge margin of 264 runs, almost giving them complete control of the series.
Nonetheless, that victory proved quite important throughout the tour of England. Although the Australian side fared well throughout the series, the English side put up a good fight and ultimately won 3-2.

Molineux’s Warne-inspired celebration caps Australia’s World Cup triumph
As is expected from Australia in terms of on-ground dominance, it was the events off the field that left the strongest impression after the match was won.
The antics of Sophie Molineux in paying tribute to Shane Warne were not merely fun and games – they revealed the strong culture of Australian cricket where players of yore still affect how their contemporaries see themselves.
Thus, the tributes paid by Molineux can be seen as quite suitable to establish a bridge between different eras: a new generation skipper paying tribute to one of the most charming characters of cricket history on one of the greatest stages of cricket.
