In the midst of some controversy, Sophie Cunningham had a message for her critics when she revealed her pregame outfit for the contest between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky on Saturday afternoon.
Cunningham, who has caught some flak lately for her views on transgender athletes taking part in girl’s and women’s sports, unveiled her pregame fit on TikTok before Saturday’s contest.
And along with that, she posted a defiant message which almost certainly is aimed at those aforementioned critics.
“I cannot EMPHASIZE how much I literally don’t care,” Cunningham wrote on the post.

Sophie Cunningham’s comments came in an ESPN article where she stated that she did not believe transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in girl’s and women’s sports.
“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,’” Cunningham stated. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest.
“And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
Cunningham has since doubled-down on her belief in the face of criticism.

The Fever star has shown a willingness to listen to opposing views after a cordial pregame conversation with Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve, who shares the opposite belief.
“She just came up and I respect her for coming up in person,” Cunningham said. “I think a lot of people hide behind screens. … She had stories about her point of view, and I have stories about my point of view, and we left with love and respect, and I think that’s what it’s all about.”
“Both of us understand that we have platforms, and we both talked about wanting to, more than anything, educate,” Reeve explained. “There are some things that we have in common, and maybe some things you differ on, just like any issues. I think it’s how you handle things. It was nice to be in person, for sure.”

Sophie Cunningham is having one of her better seasons as a pro while being a key bench player for the Fever.
The Missouri product is averaging 9.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, and she’s making three pointers at a 44.8% clip, which amounts to a career-high for her and the third-best mark in the WNBA.
Ahead of their game against Chicago, the Fever are sitting in the fifth playoff spot with a 19-12 record and could move into the No. 4 spot with a win over the Sky on Saturday.
