Son Heung-Min was named the Most Valuable Player during the 2026 MLS All-Star Game held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday evening.
The LAFC forward won the award after scoring two goals between the 20th and 23rd minutes in the first half to help the MLS All-Stars come back from an early one-goal deficit in a chaotic back-and-forth contest.
The Liga MX All-Stars asserted control early, and Luis Rey scored the match’s first goal in the ninth minute when he headed Juan Brunetta’s free-kick past a helpless Matt Freese. Son scored the equalizer with a classic cutback, and the LAFC winger scored again three minutes later, converting a short cross from Carles Gil.

Philip Zinckernagel made it 3-1 for the MLS All-Stars before the end of the first half. Salomon Rondon and Evander scored for their respective teams early in the second half before Jose Paradela scored a consolation goal for Liga MX during stoppage time.

Son Heung-Min only needed 34 minutes to make an impact for the MLS All-Stars. After scoring twice in the first half to spark their comeback, the LAFC forward was eventually replaced by Guilherme. During his post-match interview, Son expressed his gratitude to the league and its fans upon winning his first-ever award in the MLS.
“I’m very happy. I just want to say thank you to everyone who made a huge effort to make this a great game. (Winning) MVP is always special, and I just wanna say thank you to everyone,” Son stated.
“Thank you to the coaching staff, the players, and the fans for making this amazing atmosphere. I cannot wait for (my) second All-Star game,” he ended.
