The Denver Broncos are set to face the Atlanta Falcons on the road in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday. The game will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a beautiful stadium (with an artificial turf playing surface).
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix appears to be fully recovered from the broken ankle he suffered in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs in January, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Denver be extra cautious with the QB's preseason reps. When asked after Monday's practice if starters (and Nix) will play on Friday, coach Sean Payton said, "They'll play, but we haven't gone through the role yet; I'll let you guys know."
Payton was then asked in a follow-up question specifically about Nix's status. "I'll let you know when we go through the roles," Payton said.
Nix also spoke after practice, and he said he's eager to play in preseason this summer.
"I'm excited," Nix said. "I think preseason's always a great time to get back out there and get your feet wet a little bit and see defenses, be in a live situation before the first (regular season) game." When asked in a follow-up question if he thinks he'll play on Friday, Nix said, "No idea."
After facing the Falcons on Aug. 14, Denver will have home preseason games against the Green Bay Packers (Aug. 21) and Minnesota Vikings (Aug. 28). Nix figures to play at some point during preseason, but it remains to be seen if he'll suit up for Friday's game in Atlanta.
