Apr. 9—GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East softball team will look to climb up the Camden Conference standings in the new season.

YME does not graduate any of its players from last year's squad that finished with a 6-8 record in conference play and 8-14 overall in 2024.

"The girls played extremely well last year as a young squad," Sting head coach Jen Sneller said. "We did not graduate anyone and are working on building both skills and confidence in the preseason. Coaches are looking forward to seeing what these girls can accomplish together."

Bayli Sneller leads YME's returners. She is back for her fifth season as a starter and is coming off her second consecutive year as an All-Area First Team member.

The junior pitcher had a 2.50 ERA with 204 strikeouts in 119-2/3 innings pitched. Sneller also led the team at the plate with a .380 batting average, striking out just three times.

"Bayli had a great sophomore season," Jen Sneller said.

Another impact player back for YME is junior center fielder Ella Cherveny.

Cherveny had the Sting's second-highest batting average at .347 and led YME in RBIs. "Ella has put in the work in the off-season to increase both of those this year," Jen Sneller said.

Also returning as starters for the Sting include: senior infielder Riley Haar, junior catcher Alana Almich, sophomore left fielder Kourtney Peterson (LF) and a trio of ninth-granders: right-fielder Brianna Nelson, first baseman Bailey Mortenson and shortstop Everra Leenerts.

Sneller's assistant coaches for the 2025 season are Angela Winter, Danie Koepke, Kristi Klassen, Brooklyn Sorenson, Lauren McCosh and Amy Nordaune.
