The Kobayashi of Kool-Aid
Late on doing this as it's been a busy work week...
Per usual, these are some of the items I found interesting.
1. Obviously Ellington and CJ were limited on touches due to injury. DJ steps in to pick up the slack with his most active day since the last Rams game. Kulabafi (sp?) even got in a few reps with the O on the day.
2. Michael Floyd returned from his hamstring injury with a surprising 64% of snaps, which is close to his game average on the season. Usually BA has brought back hammy guys a bit slowly. With Floyds return, Both JJ and OB (the Other Brown) sat back down, participating in only 7 snaps combined.
3. Gresham remains the #1 option for the TE group, with Gresham chalking up another active day on the season. He's been in on 80% of plays since Fells got injured against the Steelers. For those that love him, Troy Niklas tripled his contribution from the prior week (2) by seeing the field for all of 7 plays in Santa Clara.
4. DL was a mess this past week. This was the first time Calais was on the field for every D snap of the game. I don't recall him making many plays either, so I think he needs to be more rested. Gunter also had a very active day with 60% of plays, as did Freeney, who was on the field for nearly half of all defensive snaps for the game - the most since we signed him.
5. Continuing with the DL, Red Bryant managed to go from the street to the field for 25% of the plays.
6. For the LB's, both Okafor (50%) and Bucannon (68%) had their contributions limited this week. Buc was dealing with a head injury this week, so I'm a bit surprised he played as much as he did, though he usually is on the field for virtually every snap. I don't recall what Okafor's issue was off-hand, so I'm a little surprised by his drop.
7. Picking up the slack for the LB's was Golden, who played 77% of snaps. Will be interesting to see if this trend continues over the last third of the season. Both Martin and Spoon got to spend some time on the field this week. Weatherspoon's 17 plays matches his total D snaps since the Bears game. If he continues to get playing time... at least he's fresh for the run to the playoffs.
8. For the DB's: PP, Rashod and the Badger all played every snap on D. Usually Buc is in that group as well, but as mentioned earlier, they gave him some time off as well. Bethel filled in for Jarrod Powers, who still managed to play nearly 60% of snaps. I'm excited to see what Justin can do while Powers is down. He did well against the Browns earlier this year, so I have some faith in him.
That's about it. As usual, all stats courtesy of Football Outsiders.
