SN 140 Moments: No. 118 - Shohei Ohtani hits 3 HRs, strikes out 10 in playoff game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Starting with Game 1 of the first World Series in 1903, there have been 153 instances of a pitcher striking out at least 10 batters in a postseason game. Over the same span, a batter has hit at least three home runs in a postseason game 13 times, with Babe Ruth the only one to do it twice.

For most of baseball’s modern era, it would have been ludicrous to believe anyone besides perhaps Ruth could perform both of those feats in the same game, and even he didn’t come close, going 1 for 10 at the plate in the three World Series games he pitched.

Yet, Shohei Ohtani did exactly that for the Dodgers in Game 4 of the 2025 NLCS against the Brewers, striking out 10 in six shutout innings while pounding three homers as LA’s designated hitter. It was a mind-blowing snapshot of Ohtani’s all-around abilities, a skill set that makes him one of one in baseball history.
